In this episode Sienna, Christina and Elizabeth are joined by Max Dashú who draws an extraordinary picture out of decades of deep research. She is a scholar of Women’s global history and heritage and gives us the vision of our true past. Max founded the Suppressed Histories Archives in 1970 to research female spheres of power, goddess reverence, shamanic arts, mother-right, patriarchy and the history of domination.
Sienna and the “Voyagettes” are riveted as Max drew for listeners a clear portrait of a history that has been stolen from us all, bringing us through the suppressed history of the feminine, to a time before Domination to an ancient past when woman’s wisdom helped shape a gender balanced and nature friendly culture that supported life. Max gives us role models of compassionate and brilliant women who have shaped culture and created a kinder gentler world that has been rewriting out of our history books. She inspires us to envision a humane world from a totally different model than the one that we currently are experiencing. It is a refreshing and eye opening experience you won’t wish to miss if you value looking at the past with awakened awareness.
Max has created a legendary collection of some 20,000 images, over one hundred visual presentations, and presented them at universities around North America, and at community centers, conferences, festivals, prisons, libraries, and schools. Max has keynoted at conferences, presented at the Museo de San Miguel de Allende in Mexico and the Casa Internazionale delle Donne in Rome, and at international conferences in Germany, Bulgaria, and Britain. Her articles have appeared in Goddesses in World Culture (Praeger, 2010) and various journals and anthologies. She has created several posters of female iconography in archaeology, and also teaches online courses and webinars. Her acclaimed dvd Women’s Power in Global Perspective was released in 2008, and a second movie, Woman Shaman: The Ancients, is now available.
